Wal-Mart To The Rescue: Private Enterprise's Response To Hurricane Katrina
February 15, 2010
by Craig Gurchinoff
Recently, Dr. Steven Horwitz came to talk about the response of private enterprise to the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. When the storm subsided, a tremendous amount of media attention was paid to the clumsy rescue-operation mustered by the Federal Emergency Management Association. Nevertheless, Dr. Horwitz, a distinguished professor of Economics at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, travelled to Hampden-Sydney to share an underemphasized story of how on-site private enterprise spearheaded crucial relief efforts spanning the disaster area. South Park and Homeland Insecurity: The Imaginationland Trilogy
January 28, 2010
by Craig Gurchinoff
On the evening of January 28th, Hampden Sydney College and the Center For Study of Political Economy kicked off the new decade with flare, welcoming Dr. Paul Cantor to speak on the socio-political nuances which lie just beneath the crust of such eminent programs as South Park, 24, and Seinfeld. Nevertheless, Dr. Cantor successfully vanquished a brittle rumor, which would have uninformed intellectuals believe that South Park is “just potty humor…to be dismissed as mere obscenity.” Full Story...
