Honors in Political Science: From Bullets to the Ballot Box
The paper examines three terrorist groups, the IRA, the PIRA, and Hamas, in search of a deeper understanding of terrorism. The paper defines who a terrorist is, what terrorism is, and what constitutes a successful terrorist group. The political goals of the three terrorist groups are outlined and the question of whether or not terrorism has been a successful method in delivering the desired objectives to the terrorist organization is examined. Finally, benefits from the use of terror are examined along with lessons and possible courses of action to confront terrorism.
