Adonis' Double Identity

Adonis' Double Identity sheds light on the relationship of Adonis to the less familiar Phaon. The research was composed of primarily textual analysis in Greek and Latin; surviving images of Adonis and Phaon supplement these texts. Analysis of the myths of Adonis and Phaon found numerous common themes. The work concludes that Adonis and Phaon were at one point the same person. Phaon (meaning "bright") was an epithet of Adonis (meaning "lord"). Phaon, over time, took on his own identity and myths, but retained many of the core themes of Adonis' myth.
