Hampden-Sydney Participates in
Yellow Ribbon Program for Veterans

Hampden-Sydney College is among the colleges and universities participating in the new Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.

The Yellow Ribbon program allows degree-granting institutions to form a voluntary agreement with the Veterans Administration (VA) to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public, in-state, undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50 percent of those expenses, and the VA will match the same amount as the institution.

Hampden-Sydney will offer up to $10,500 in aid which will be matched by the new program administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

For the Yellow Ribbon Program, the VA defines eligibility as individuals who served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months; who were honorably discharged from active duty after serving at least 30 continuous days since that date; or who had dependents eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Benefits are payable for training pursued on or after August 1, 2009.

For more information about the Yellow Ribbon Program, visit Benefit Programs at www.gibill.va.gov. To apply at Hampden-Sydney College, contact Debra Gregory, Office Manager and Systems Supervisor, Financial Aid, 434-223-6119, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
