Hampden-Sydney College is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by The Great Colleges to Work For program.

"Great College to Work For" logoThe Great Colleges to Work For survey is one of the largest and most respected workplace recognition programs in the country. Now in its twelfth year, it recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees regarding workplace practices and policies.

“The faculty and staff of Hampden-Sydney make this college an incredible place to live and work, and their commitment to our students is what makes our educational experience so transformative and valuable,” said Hampden-Sydney President Larry Stimpert. “Our young men receive an unmatched level of guidance and mentorship from our faculty and staff, and the enduring excellence of our academic program is a testament to the ownership and pride the faculty take in their work. Hampden-Sydney won honors in the leadership and careers classifications. In the leadership area, the College was recognized for excellence in collaborative governance, which recognizes that faculty are appropriately involved in decisions related to academic programs. And in the careers category, Hampden-Sydney was recognized for tenure clarity and process.

The results were recently released in a special insert in the Chronicle. The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

“An institution’s ‘human capital’ is its most important asset and often its largest expense,” said Rich Boyer, senior consultant at ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm that administered the survey and analyzed the results. “It only makes sense to protect that investment. More than simply protecting that asset, the colleges and universities recognized in this year’s Great Colleges to Work For program demonstrate their commitment to the day-to-day experience of their faculty and staff and the overall health of their institution’s culture.”
