INTRODUCTION
In the globalized world of today it has become more
important to be aware of international issues and customs, to acquire an
international perspective and become culturally
literate. One of Hampden-Sydney College's goals is hence to raise faculty
and students' awareness of the need to develop and have international skills
and think internationally.
Hampden-Sydney College offers many international and cultural events and
activities. The purpose of this webpage is to
give you an oversight of the various opportunities to familiarize yourself

INTERNATIONAL VISITING SCHOLAR
International Visiting Scholars as well as Fulbright
and Amity scholars are invited to come to
Hampden-Sydney College for at least one term to lecture on international and
cultural issues. This is part of Hampden-Sydney College's Quality Enhancement
Program (QEP) and the College's commitment
to "prepare good men and great leaders for a culturally diverse world".

International faculty and students as well as friends of the college who have traveled, worked
and lived abroad or who are just interested in
things international meet once a week to discuss international issues or
exchange anecdotes about their experience abroad.

Hampden-Sydney College offers
a variety of opportunities for Study Abroad to over 125 programs at
Colleges and Universities around the world. Faculty-led courses abroad
are also offered each year during May Term.

The Career Development Office
Career
Development is working to accommodate students who are interested
in internships abroad. Also, your advisor can give you assistance.
The International Club with its members from the US and other
nations meets at Burrell House on Fraternity Circle. The club's annual
International Food Festival is an event not to be missed.

You can live in a foreign environment on campus residing at
Burrell House with foreign national students or just visit them and chat.

In the Casa Hispánica
you can live in a Spanish language environment speaking Spanish with other
students and be tutored by a native
speaker. The Casa Hispánica also organizes international events.
Tango

Beginning with the fall semester 2008 the French House/ La Maison Francaise
will be open to students who would like to live in a French language
environment speaking French with a native speaking Amity Scholar from France
and other students.
The modern languages department offers cultural events with
participants from many corners of the world, giving you the opportunity of
gaining some insight into other mindsets and cultures.

Another way to become aware of different cultures is through

Wilson Leadership Center
alumni and other distinguished guests who work internationally are regularly invited
to Hampden-Sydney College to speak at forums on various international issues.

You can also acquire international insight and perspective
by participating in the Model United Nations, Model Organization of American
States (MOAS) and Model African Union discussions. Hampden-Sydney College's Madisonian Society
Clubs and
Organizations provides support for students to participate in
inter-collegiate activities, as well as other activities related to
international politics.
