Planned international events Fall semester

Aug. 24, 5:15pm-5:45pm Modern Languages Introduction, Spanish, French, German and Chinese at Gilmer Hall

Sept. 1, Etchings by the German Expressionist Kathe Kollwitz at Atkinson Museum, Museum Exhibit Opening: Co-sponsored by the Fine Arts Department and The Atkinson Museum of Hampden-Sydney College

Sept. 11, 5pm Seminar on international affairs, International Club event,  in Parents&Friends Lounge

Sept. 15. International Club visiting performance of  Indian dancers, Sweet Briars College

Sept. 16. Chinese Moon Festival with Chinese culinary delicacies at International House.

Sept. 19. International Club is visiting Euro-Night, a culinary trip through Europe at the Maison Francaise/French Embassy in Washington DC

Sept. 20, 4:00 – 6:00pm Open house with  Spanish, Colombian, Mexican food and music at the Casa Hispanica, College Rd across from 'Penshurst', the Dean of Faculty's house. Everyone is welcome.

Sept. 23, 4:30 – 6pm Study Abroad Reception in honor of returning Study Abroad Students Learn about student life abroad and abroad opportunities as returning students present their experiences abroad. P&F Refreshments will be served.

Sept. 26/27,12:30am to 5pm Family Weekend Museum Exhibit: Etchings by the German Expressionist Kathe Kollwitz at Atkinson Museum

Sept. 27, 10:45am  'International Studies: A world of opportunity' a Family Weekend Parents Forum presented by Director of International Studies, at Chairman's Room

Sept. 30, 5-7pm "International House Opening Reception" International Club Event with food, International House

Oct. 2, 6pm  Spanish House event: Seminar about  'Spain' in Casa Hispanica

Oct. Oktoberfest, German Club, Main Street Eatery in Lynchburg, contact Dr. Johnson

Oct. 9, 5pm  Seminar on international affairs, International Club event, in Parents&Friends Lounge

Oct. 12, 8pm  Movie-time Akira Kurosawa’s 'The Hidden Fortress' in the DuPont Room.  This is a samurai film classic that George Lucas ripped off to create the original _Star Wars_. 

Oct. 13, 6pm Columbus day event in la casa hispanica with speakers: Miguel Mogollon and Mr. Israel Domingo

Oct. 17/18 The International Club will visit the 'Festival of India' in Richmond

Oct. 22, 8pm A Night of Tango with the Tami Tango Trio from Argentina at Crawley Forum. Free Admission. Spanish dance and music.

Oct. 27, 7pm THE EDGE OF HEAVEN by the Turkish-German film director Fatih Akin movie with a discussion of it following the viewing in  Parents & Friends

Feb 14, 7:30pm International Symposium Event. "Masculinities around the World", Crawley Forum

March 6th 7:00pm Irish food at the Dining Hall

March 17, 4:30pm St Patrick's Day Parade along College Rd and Via Sacra

March 28, 7pm Ceili, Irish/Scottish music and dance night with the group 'Mulligan's Banned," Tiger Inn with fish'n chips, stew, Guinness and lots of fun

April 3rd 6:30pm International Fair with stalls, events and food from different nations around the world in Crawley Forum

April 15, 7:30pm Culture Shock -Surviving in the international world- A panel discussion with Professors Buckley, Olaiya, Gokcesu and Col. Snead designed to prep you for living, working and surviving in our global economy.

 

Fall semester 2007

Oct. 25, 7:30pm Parents & Friends, Presentation: International Visiting Scholar Ciaran Buckley Esq.

Oct. 25, 5pm Oktoberfest in Lynchburg, German Club

Oct. 26, 5pm International Film and Food Festival hosted by the International Club in Parents & Friends

Nov. 2, 5pm Dia Di Los Muertos, 'Spanish'  Gilkenson House

Nov. 8, 7:00am-11:00pm International Business and Globalization courses visit Washington, DC

Nov. 14, 11:30am Mr. Singh-Molares, formerly of Microsoft and currently a Woodrow Wilson Fellow will be a guest at the International Round Table, North Dining Hall

Nov. 22, 4:30pm International Thanksgiving Dinner with traditional turkey, sweet potatoes etc., and some international food.

Dec. 5th, 11:30 am  International Round Table, will meet North Dining Hall to celebrate the Feast day of  St. Nicholas, Sankt Nikolaus with German, Italian and Irish Christmas goodies.
