"This is a wonderful opportunity and achievement for our friend and colleague," said Hampden-Sydney College President Larry Stimpert. "I am grateful to Lee for his years of service to the College, and I know the entire College community joins me in wishing him and his wife, Tammy, our best in this exciting next chapter for them and their family."
Dr. King returned to his alma mater in 2011 from Hollins University, where he had previously served as vice president for external relations. During his tenure at Hampden-Sydney, the College has seen significant fundraising successes, including an all-time high in unrestricted giving in 2017, which was also the fourth-best fundraising year in College history.
Hampden-Sydney is currently developing plans for a search for Dr. King's replacement as vice president for institutional advancement.
