Rankings were derived from data The Princeton Review collected in 2017–18 from surveys of administrators at more than 650 colleges, as well as data from surveys of students attending the schools and surveys of alumni that PayScale.com conducted through April of 2018. More than 40 data points were used to determine the colleges’ ROI ratings, with focus areas including academics, cost, financial aid, debt, graduation rates, and alumni career and salary data.

Princeton Review editors salute the College’s academic program, writing, “The college’s required Rhetoric Program provides training in writing and speech, and the interdisciplinary Core Cultures program ensures students learn about the past from both a Western and a global cultures perspective.”

Editors also quote students praising the “beautiful campus” and “instant brotherhood” at Hampden-Sydney, as well as the quality and accessibility of professors, who “even invite their students to have dinner at their homes.” Says one biology major, “You will not get an education like this anywhere else.”
