Brad Cary '85, MBA Wharton, is President of CIBT, which provides passport and other documentation services to companies and individuals seeking to travel to other countries or to those seeking admission to the U.S. Jon Kjos '93, MBA the University of Michigan, is with A.O.L. managing a project to augment "instant messaging" to worldwide cell phones and hand held computers. Shep Haw '78, MBA Duke University, is Director of Development for MCV Hospitals and Physicians. On March 14, these men spoke with about 50 current Hampden-Sydney students interested in pursuing an MBA.
They stressed that early preparation was key to admission to prestigious MBA programs. This includes academic success, campus leadership, relevant summer jobs, and other personal achievements. They spoke about their respective programs and what students - from freshmen to seniors - should do to prepare themselves to pursue an MBA. They also announced their own commitment to assist qualified Hampden-Sydney men with mentoring and their intention to secure the participation of other Hampden-Sydney alumni to build an effective bridge from the H-SC campus to MBA campuses nationwide with an emphasis on top-tier schools.
This was the kickoff event for the Hampden-Sydney MBA Mentors Program. Initiated by Cary and Kjos, it is sponsored by the Offices of Career Services and Alumni Relations. Dr. David Gibson, Professor of the Economics, and George Wells, Director of Career Services, will serve as advisors. Howard Stracke, Director of Alumni Relations, and Richard Epperson, Director of Development, Dr. Gerry Bryce, Elliott Professor of Mathematics, and Dr. Paul Baker, Vice President for Administration, join Dr. Gibson and Mr. Wells in advising the group's efforts.
A videotape of the event is in the Fuqua International Communications Center where students may access the tape for viewing.
