H-SC Students in Honduras
Honduras 2008In January 2008 Hampden-Sydney College returned to Honduras to continue work on the medical clinic outside of Taulabe. For several years HSC has been sending volunteers to work on this sight as well as in the villages in the surrounding mountains. Once again Dr. Aaron Marks ’98 returned with the group and practiced dentistry in several villages and also at the construction site.

Volunteers for this trip include: Zach Pierce, John Pendelton, Benjamin Brown, Ed Haden, Luke Wadsworth, Garrett Trego, Will Blackman, Brandon Ferrell, Lee Warren, Dr. Aaron Marks, and Assistant Dean of Students Wes Lawson. Photo Gallery...


Fishing in New MexicoSpring Break Fly Fishing in New Mexico
Beyond The Hill sponsored a trip during Spring Break 2007 to Navajo Dam, New Mexico to fly fish on the San Juan River.  The group spent four days catching large brown and rainbow trout amidst beautiful desert scenery and snow covered hills.  The trip was lead by Friend of the College Harry Robertson and assisted by Assistant Dean of Students Meade Whitaker ’99 and Dean of Students David Klein ’78.  Students on the trip were John Boswell ’07, Dash Kelley ’07, Doug Vermilya ‘11 and Rob Lepczyk ‘11.  The group was joined by alumni Jack Boswell ‘65, David Carter ‘93 and former Chairman of the College’s Board of Trustees, Bill Boinest ‘54. As the Dean of Students, I am an advocate of the mission of the College as I understand it; and I stress to the student affairs staff the link between College mission and our work.  Also, I promote among our staff the ideas that living our lives consistent with the College’s purpose and values and treating others, particularly students, with respect are the most powerful teaching tools we have to convey the College’s mission, those of example and modeling.  Full Story...
