PI MU EPSILON Pi Mu Epsilon is a national honorary mathematics fraternity. Founded in 1914 at Syracuse University, Pi Mu Epsilon exists for the purpose of promoting and recognizing scholarly achievement in mathematics. Hampden-Sydney's chapter, the Eta of Virginia, was installed on May 10, 1982. To qualify for election, juniors and seniors must have completed four mathematics courses, including calculus, with at least a 3.0 average and rank in the top one-third of their class, while sophomores must have completed three mathematics courses including calculus with a 4.0 average, rank in the top one-fourth of their class, and plan to major in mathematics.
