WHAT is the Shelton Challenge?

Shelton Challenge logoThe Shelton Challenge at Hampden-Sydney College is a six-day summer residential experience where young men explore the cornerstones of values-based leadership - honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility - through problem-solving and team-building activities, ropes courses, and service projects. The curriculum includes

  • Personal Leadership Assessment and Interpersonal Dynamics
  • Role of Values and Ethics in Leadership
  • Leadership Traits and Approaches
  • Teambuilding and Empowering Others
  • Civic and Social Responsibility
  • Goal Setting

Hampden-Sydney College, in cooperation with the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest and North Carolina State University, is offering the Shelton Challenge - June 23 through June 28, 2019 - to young men entering 10th, 11th & 12th grades who want to become better leaders. Led by Hampden-Sydney faculty and staff instructors throughout the week, students will experience residence hall living, eat meals in the dining hall, and use the indoor and outdoor campus facilities.

WHO

young men entering 10th, 11th & 12th grades with 3.0 grade point average or higher

COST

$650 for the week*  (includes room and board and all on- and off-campus activities)

APPLICATIONS

Deadline: June 1, 2019 

To Apply: Complete and submit application, 2 letters of reference, and $100 deposit

*Total payment, including a deposit of $100, is $650. Refunds are provided up to one month prior to program (June 1).
