On April 17, the seniors in the Military Leadership/National Security Studies Certificate Program were recognized at the annual
Wilson Center Awards banquet.
This event has been traditionally a highlight of the year for the Wilson Center,
a time to recognize accomplishments of both alumni in public service and the seniors of the Military Leadership/National Security
Studies and Public Service Certificate Programs.
The 2009 banquet honored the fourth group of outstanding young men to complete the Military Leadership/National Security Studies Certificate
Program. This program is now recognized as a minor, and is so noted on the transcripts of students who complete
the requirements.
This years' certificate recipients, flanked by Dr. James Simms, Coordinator of the Military Leadership/National Security Studies Program
and Dr. Walter M. Bortz III, H-SC President, are listed below. Additional banquet pictures
James A. Bonney a Political Science major (summa cum laude), with an additional minor in rhetoric. He held the Madison Scholarship. James received the Rhetoric Speech Award at Final Convocation.
He hopes to serve his country in some capacity.
Andrew J. Dalton, a History major (cum laude), is formulating his post-graduation plans. He received the Military Leadership/National Security Studies
Coleman Award.
Adam H. King, an Economics and Commerce major, plans to take a position as a sales representative for KTI Ltd. in Pulaski, VA.
John B. Pendleton, a Political Science major (cum laude), is interested in a position with one of the intelligence agencies.

Robert B. Gordon, a Political Science major, is formulating his post-graduation plans.
Eric Roeske a History major (cum laude), held the Richard Morton Venable Scholarship. He is considering graduate studies at VCA in the area of
Homeland Security.
