The following positions are available for the summer. Summer Employment runs from May 14 through August 22. Applications can be picked up in the Human Resources Office or printed from the website here.

Annual Giving - Summer Phonathon

8 positions - Frasher Bolton, ext. 6674
Students Only: Position will involve calling alumni, discussing Hampden-Sydney, and asking for gifts to the Hampden-Sydney Fund. Paid training (approx. four hours) will be provided. Position will require working 6:00-8:30 pm, Mondays through Thursdays. At least two nights per week is required. Strong phone skills and confidentiality are necessary. Position will work for four weeks roughly corresponding with the May Term (May 22 - June 14). Applicants must be residential May Term students, local students, or other such students who have existing housing accommodations for the period of employment. Housing will not be provided for student workers. Position has potential for school-year re-hiring. Underclassmen strongly encouraged to apply.


1 position - Alan Mason, ext. 6162
Laundry duties - washes all linens from student rooms for camps throughout summer. Assists with storing and removing furniture used by summer camps that is stored in the warehouse.

Performs other cleaning assignments as time permits and as assigned by the Supervisor of Housekeeping. Hours are 6:00-2:30, Monday - Friday. Some weekends required. Position ends July 31, 2018.

Library (May Term)

Perform general library duties to include: circulation, assist patrons at the front desk and answer telephones. Knowledge of computer usage is essential. Hours are 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday. Position available May 22 thru June 21.

Office Floater

Successful applicant will work rotating week-long assignments in multiple offices on campus. Must be comfortable in a professional office setting. Computer knowledge preferred; ability to answer telephones in a professional manner, take and deliver messages, and file accurately required.

May be asked to run errands on campus; other duties as assigned. Hours are 8:30-5:00, Monday - Friday. Must have a valid driver's license and transportation while on campus.

Physical Plant (Stockroom)

Assist employees with preparing end of year inventory of antique collectible items throughout campus. Issue and receive inventory and supplies. Answer telephones. Assist with keys for summer camps and restocking student keys. Assist with all other stockroom duties as needed. Must be able to use computer with windows operating system and be knowledgeable of Microsoft Access, Microsoft Works, and Excel. Must be able to operate forklift and have valid driver's license. Must be 18 years of age to be certified forklift operator. Hours are 7:00-4:00, Monday - Friday.

Seasonal Groundskeepers

Multiple positions - Steve Boles, ext. 7085

Perform general grounds maintenance tasks of a standard nature, involving operation of motorized equipment and variety of hand tools. Duties include mow, cut, water lawns; rake/blow leaves; dig holes for bushes; pull/chop weeds; prune; haul topsoil/mulch. Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads, work in bending/standing positions. Hazard weather duties and special event support required as directed. Must be able to operate lawn care equipment, be at least 18 years of age, and hold a valid Virginia's driver's license. Hours are 7:00am-3:30pm, Monday - Friday, weekends as needed. Positions available May 1 thru September 30 and March 15 thru December 15.
