Director of Annual Giving 

Hampden-Sydney College seeks a Director of Annual Giving to advance its compelling, 244-year-old mission, “to form good men and good citizens.” Founded in 1775 with Patrick Henry and James Madison among its charter trustees, Hampden-Sydney is the tenth oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.  Reporting to the Vice President of College Advancement and serving as a member of the Advancement leadership team, the Director will develop a comprehensive, metrics-based annual giving program to increase annual giving dollars and participation from alumni, parents, and friends of Hampden-Sydney College through direct mail, email, personal solicitation, online giving, and phone and text solicitation. This position will be based in Farmville, VA or, in special circumstances, one of the nearby metropolitan areas (Richmond, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg) along with regular travel to campus.

Qualifications:  Familiarity with Hampden-Sydney College or similar private institution highly desirable.  Successful candidate must possess excellent written communication skills with a high degree of initiative and commitment to excellence.   A results-driven leader with progressive experience and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.   Must be highly collaborative and disciplined, as well as detail and results-oriented.  Ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams.  Experience examining and re-engineering operations and procedures to maximize results and ensure best practices.  Proven ability to lead projects to completion.  Exceptional technical skills, particularly in MS Office and CRMS (constituent relations management systems).  Travel is required, as well as occasional evening and weekend work.  Ability to represent Hampden-Sydney College effectively at events and in the community through sound judgement and exceptional decorum as well as willingness to maintain confidentiality in handling all matters within the College.
