To continue to build and expand upon its mission of "forming good men and good citizens" Hampden-Sydney College seeks an outstanding leader to serve as its Director of Alumni and Parent Relations.

The Director provides leadership, administration, and planning of a coordinated program of activities, such as social, educational, and recreational events, volunteer opportunities, communications, and services to alumni and parents of current and former students on and off campus, for the purpose of developing mutually beneficial, strong ties between the College and its constituents. As a member of the Office of Institutional Advancement, the Director works closely with Annual Giving, Development, and Advancement Services in maintaining the alumni and parent engagement with the College with a mission to enhance the prospect of philanthropic effect. Furthermore, the Director collaborates with the Office of Marketing and Communication, Admissions Office, the Office of Career Services, and other members of the College community, including the faculty, to successfully carry out the responsibilities of this position.

Bachelor degree, preferably from Hampden-Sydney College, along with 1-3 years of previous experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. The Director will be working closely with the rest of the Institutional Advancement team, as well as various departments and constituents, therefore applicants must exhibit both flexible leadership and strong team mentalities. Of particular importance is a dedication to a liberal arts education and the ability to inspire the fullest level of support from staff, campus community, alumni, parents, and others. Candidates that demonstrate exceptional relationship and excellent communication and analytical skills, as well as those with the ability to approach problems with creativity, insight, innovation, and resourcefulness are particularly sought. Computer proficiency, preferably in Microsoft Office, Constituent Relations Management Systems, as well as advanced Content Management Systems, is favored. Furthermore, candidates must be willing to travel as well as to commit to working some evenings and weekends.

Accounts Payable/Student Loan Specialist-Business Office

Hampden-Sydney College has an opening for a permanent full-time position in the Accounts Payable department. Duties include: reconciling and processing invoices for payment through our third party processor; administering the College's corporate card program and training employees on use of the system; processing 1099's; filing; maintaining data on spreadsheets; answering payment related questions from suppliers and College employees. Additional duties include administering the College's Perkins and private student loan portfolios; coordinating with the College's third-party loan servicer; collections agency and credit bureau(s).

Qualifications: Minimum of an Associate Degree (AA) or two-year degree from community college required, concentration in accounting or business preferred. 3-5 years office experience. Must have the aptitude to work with various computer systems and be proficient with Word and Excel. Must be able to multi-task, be customer service oriented and have a working knowledge of accounting principles and databases.

Part-time Sales Associate - Campus Store

Hampden-Sydney College has an opening for a Part-time Sales Associate - Campus Store. The Sales Associate will provide excellent customer service, develop product knowledge, maintain the selling floor presentations and restock the sales floor as needed, answer phones and process phone orders, assist with promotions, operate a computerized cash register, handle payments and reconcile daily sales and cash, and provide leadership for student workers. This individual must be a team player who is professional, courteous and dependable with a positive attitude.

Must be able to lift, carry, bend, stoop and move up to 40 lbs. A high school diploma and 1 to 3 years previous experience required; strong computer skills, good communication skills and ability to work with frequent interruptions. Position requires the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Candidates with successful experience as agents of change are particularly sought, and leadership experience in a comprehensive campaign is required. As would be expected, superior communication and relationship-building skills are sine qua non. Of particular import is a dedication to a liberal arts education and the ability to inspire the fullest level of support from staff, campus community, volunteers, donors and prospects.

Director of the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest

Hampden-Sydney College invites experienced and visionary professionals to apply for the position of Director of the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest. The Director will have the primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Wilson Center and for developing and implementing a vision for its future. With the support of the Center's full-time Coordinator, and in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Faculty Advisory Group and the Center's Board, the successful candidate will plan and implement the Center's programming and events. These include overseeing a four-year leadership program for students, planning and implementing lectures and symposia associated with the Center, the Summer College program, as well as other events. The Director is responsible for developing and managing a yearly budget, and for monitoring additional restricted and endowed funds. He or she will also be active in fundraising, working with the Wilson Center's Board of Advisors and the Office of Institutional Advancement to coordinate these efforts. In addition, the Director will assist in graduate school and professional job placement, maintain the Center's website and regular publications coordinate marketing and advertising for the Center, and manage the Center's civic education and outreach programs. Since one of the main goals of the Center is to support the college's recruitment and retention efforts, the Director will work closely on all projects with the Office of Admissions and the Office of Alumni Affairs. And with a new strategic plan just approved, the new Director will have an unusual opportunity to play a major role in helping develop new directions for the Wilson Center.

This is a full-time, twelve-month staff appointment, and there will be some opportunities for teaching leadership courses. Ideal candidates will have experience in overseeing a successful leadership program. Experience in higher education is a plus but not a requirement. Candidates from a wide range of academic disciplines are encouraged to apply, as are candidates from business, government, foundations, and not-for-profit organizations. Candidates with a Ph.D. are highly preferred, but candidates with a Master's degree who have significant practical leadership experience will certainly be considered.
