This meeting is being organized by undergraduate research program directors from across the Commonwealth.

Hampden-Sydney College was a charter member of NURVa, says Mike Wolyniak, director of undergraduate research at Hampden-Sydney and member of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), the national body that inspired these efforts. “We wanted to create a statewide equivalent to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) that would expand opportunities for students across all disciplines to present their research to their peers and professors.” As the council considered a host for the first conference, H-SC emerged as a centrally-located institution with a vibrant undergraduate research program that was enthusiastic to welcome students and faculty from across the state to showcase their work.

We wanted to create a statewide equivalent to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) that would expand opportunities for students across all disciplines to present their research to their peers and professors.

Wolyniak hopes that from this meeting, NURVa will continue to expand its activities to include events across the Commonwealth, including sessions at the General Assembly in Richmond and workshops on research program development and sustainability.

NURVa promises to be a valuable opportunity for undergraduates in all disciplines to professionally present their research and creative work, right here on Hampden-Sydney’s campus.
