Hampden-Sydney College is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Hoffer ’06 as director of alumni and parent engagement.
Hoffer returns to his alma mater after six years at the University of Virginia (UVA) supporting the humanities. While at UVA, Kevin enhanced advisory board and donor relations by creating programs and events aimed at fostering a sense of community among key stakeholders. Prior to UVA, Hoffer served the USO in his hometown of Hampton Roads, Virginia, for almost 10 years. As director of center operations, Hoffer supported military members and their families by creating engagement strategies and improving operations to further strengthen philanthropic support.
“My goal is to strengthen the alumni office into a year-round hub that connects alumni across all generations,” Hoffer says. “By working with the Alumni Board, Young Alumni Council, and regional club leadership, it is my intention to enhance regional events across the county, focus on career centric programming empowering alumni to build networking opportunities for students that will bridge the gap between graduation and career success and to work closely with the admission office so we can integrate alumni as ambassadors for the college to help recruit the next generation of students. I’m truly excited for what we will accomplish for the men of Hampden‑Sydney College, past, present and future.”
Hampden-Sydney also welcomes Mia Garrett to the alumni and parent engagement team. As assistant director of alumni and parent engagement, Mia Garrett will lead alumni outreach, regional club engagement, and athletics event initiatives.
Garrett previously served as assistant director of events and donor stewardship with the Duke Club at James Madison University (JMU), managing large-scale donor events and communications supporting more than 5,000 athletics donors.
Anchoring the team are Linda Hart Cheyne and Victoria Fenton ’23, assistant directors of alumni and parent engagement.
Cheyne leads affinity groups and alumni leadership committees, hosts major alumni events, and works closely with regional club leaders to strengthen alumni engagement across the country. She also serves as a liaison to the Ferguson Career Center and the Office of Student Affairs, helping connect alumni with current students and campus initiatives. Cheyne and her husband, Professor of Physics and Astronomy Stanley Cheyne, share five children, three of whom are Hampden-Sydney alumni.
Fenton first worked with the office of alumni and parent engagement as a student intern during her senior year and joined the team full-time after graduation. She graduated with a degree in biology and now works to help keep Hampden-Sydney alumni connected to the College and to each other. In her role, Fenton helps manage several of the platforms alumni use to stay engaged, including the alumni website and H-SConnects. She also helps plan and execute alumni events and works closely with nine regional alumni clubs.
