$2,500 per year for all admitted out-of-state students
The Garland Award honors the legacy of Anita Garland, whose four decades of transformative leadership in the Office of Admission shaped generations of students and strengthened the very heart of our community. Just as Ms. Garland welcomed each new class with warmth, integrity, and unwavering belief in the liberal arts, the Garland Award will warmly welcome every student who comes from out-of-state with an award of $2,500.
During her time at Hampden-Sydney, Anita Garland came to embody the College in a way that only a few of its heroes from the last 250 years have succeeded in doing. Beloved by students, staff, and faculty, she is as iconic as our gates and bell tower. With her infectious smile, dashing hats, hand-written notes, and her personal warmth and dedication to others, Anita Garland has left an indelible mark on Hampden-Sydney College.
