"Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.”
—Albert Schweitzer
Since graduating three years ago, Pryor has had a desire to support Hampden-Sydney in any way he can. “Of all the places I lend my support, I’m most passionate about Hampden-Sydney,” he said. “If you love Hampden-Sydney like I do, a legacy gift is a great way to make a long-term commitment to the College. I have a life insurance policy naming Hampden-Sydney as the beneficiary that I hope, in time, will grow,” Pryor explained.
From the moment he arrived on campus for a fall football game as a high school senior, Pryor knew Hampden-Sydney was where he wanted to be. “I didn’t even visit a class or schedule a tour. For me, it was love at first sight,” Pryor shared. “I applied Early Admission and never looked back.”
Pryor majored in government and foreign affairs at Hampden-Sydney with a Spanish minor. He was also president of a mentoring program in the local public schools, a Chi-Phi fraternity brother, managing director of Tiger Radio (which he helped resurrect), and a member of both the President’s Men and the Garnet and Grey Society.
“Hampden-Sydney changed my life. I really grew as a man and developed into a leader while I was a student. I was regularly forced—in a good way—out of my comfort zone.”
Perhaps that’s the reason Pryor made a legacy gift at his age and stage in life. “I think there’s a misconception that you have to be really wealthy to make a legacy gift,” he continued. “That’s simply not the case. It’s something we can all do. You just have to find the gift that’s within your means.”
Pryor has stayed active in the Hampden-Sydney alumni network, currently as a member of the Circle committee in his hometown of Richmond. He also participated in an alumni panel recently held on campus, sharing career insights with current students. Pryor, an assistant property manager with Colliers International, is working to have more Hampden-Sydney men be part of Colliers’ internship program.
Pryor feels optimistic about his alma mater’s future. “As a liberal arts school, it’s important for Hampden-Sydney to stay relevant and innovative,” Pryor said. “We have passionate leadership with Dr. Stimpert and an unbelievable team of administrators and faculty.”
“I hope other alumni who love the school like I do will find ways to stay engaged. There are great things happening at Hampden-Sydney. I’m proud to make it a part of my legacy.”
Your gift supports the Tiger legacy and positions the College for another 244 years of forming good men and good citizens.
