Hill Excursions Across Town

With each H.E.A.T. trip, students move beyond the classroom and into entrepreneurial ecosystems where they learn, compete, network, and apply their skills in real-world settings. Students develop confidence, expand professional networks, and gain first-hand exposure to the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurship through conferences, competitions, and case studies.

"The Flemming Center is more than just another program at Hampden-Sydney. In one semester, I competed on both H.E.A.T. teams, winning 1st place at TechStars in Richmond and placing 4th at the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Summit Case Study competition in Indiana. Those trips taught me that communication and networking are real skills you develop by doing. This coming year, I will host the i2i Podcast, connecting with alumni, faculty, and fellow students. And after taking Dr. Michele King's entrepreneurship course, I turned a class project into a real business. I have created and sold over 50 Game and Fish accessories made from paracord, now carried in the H-SC Bookstore through the Foundry. The hands-on experiences I received in one brief semester are priceless."
