Requests for Exemption to the College Housing Policy

Hampden-Sydney College has a four-year residential requirement for all students. Students who wish to request an exemption from this four-year residential requirement, or request special accommodations within on-campus housing, may submit a Request for Special Housing Policy Exemption using the processes outlined below.

General Submission Guidelines

    • Submission of a Request for Special Housing Policy Exemption does not guarantee approval 
    • The deadline for submission of a Request for Special Housing Policy Exemption and all related documentation is
      • February 1 for current students
      • June 1 for new students enrolling in the fall
    • Late submissions will not be accepted

Housing Exemption Requests

Current students who wish to request an exemption from the College's four-year residential requirement because they are married, students commuting from their parent or guardian's home, Non-Traditional Students (over age 24), or are interested in Substance Free Housing (Reed House), need to complete the following forms and submit them to the Office of Student Affairs, BSC 302 by February 1 of each year for review.  An application is not a guarantee that a student will be granted permission to live off campus.    New students entering in the fall should indicate their request on their Housing Questionnaire and submit these forms by to the Office of Student Affairs PO Box 5 by June 1.
