Hampden-Sydney College is proud to announce that the College will host the 83rd session of Boys State of Virginia, scheduled for June 20–27, 2026.
Virginia Boys State provides hands-on experience in government and civic engagement to rising seniors from high schools across the commonwealth. Local American Legion posts nominate participants, who are chosen through a competitive interview process that takes into account their academic achievements, leadership ability, civic engagement, and citizenship. Since the program's founding in 1935, American Legion Boys State has educated young men in civic responsibility and active democratic participation.
The partnership aligns with Hampden-Sydney College's mission of forming good men and good citizens. President Larry Stimpert and the College community welcome the opportunity to support the program's educational objectives.
"Hosting Boys State of Virginia represents a natural extension of our institutional mission and values," says Stimpert. "We are honored to provide a setting where these young men can develop leadership skills and deepen their understanding of civic duty."
“Virginia Boys State is honored to partner with Hampden-Sydney College, an institution whose enduring commitment to honor, character, and civic responsibility reflects the timeless belief that the formation of principled gentlemen, engaged men, and responsible citizens strengthens our nation,” adds Director Linden Dixon of the American Legion Boys State of Virginia Board of Directors. “Hampden-Sydney College’s proud tradition of forming good men and good citizens, guided by its revered codes of honor and conduct, provides an unparalleled setting for a life-changing week: one that shapes not only a moment, but a lifetime.”
The College anticipates a successful, long-term relationship with American Legion Boys State of Virginia as both organizations work to prepare the next generation of civic leaders.
