Student Venture Marketplace
The Foundry serves as a structured marketplace where students move from concept to customer, working with suppliers, the Campus Store, and College departments to price, market, sell, and validate products in a live environment. Students assume responsibility for product development, customer engagement, marketing, and business operations while testing ideas in the marketplace. Current ventures include a Christian clothing line, turkey calls, tufted rugs, manga comic books, and other student-created products.
"The Flemming Center is more than just another program at Hampden-Sydney. In one semester, I competed on both H.E.A.T. teams, winning 1st place at TechStars in Richmond and placing 4th at the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Summit Case Study competition in Indiana. Those trips taught me that communication and networking are real skills you develop by doing. This coming year, I will host the i2i Podcast, connecting with alumni, faculty, and fellow students. And after taking Dr. Michele King's entrepreneurship course, I turned a class project into a real business. I have created and sold over 50 Game and Fish accessories made from paracord, now carried in the HSC Bookstore through the Foundry. The hands-on experiences I received in one brief semester are priceless."
