Accreditation: SACSCOC and Hampden-Sydney College
Hampden-Sydney College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate degrees. Hampden-Sydney College also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Questions about the accreditation of Hampden-Sydney College may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling (404) 679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC’s website (www.sacscoc.org).
Goals for Student Achievement
Per SACSCOC Standard 8.1 (student achievement), The College's clearly established measures of student achievement include various widely used retention metrics. As a liberal arts college, Hampden-Sydney uses three measures to assess student achievement: freshmen-to-sophomore retention rates, six-year graduations rates, and graduate outcomes (job and graduate school placement rates). The outcomes are defined and data provided on the Goals for Student Achievement webpage.
Student Complaints Policy
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) requires its accredited institutions to have in place student complaint policies and procedures that are reasonable, fairly administered, and well publicized. The Commission also requires, in accord with federal regulations, that each institution maintains a record of complaints received by the institution. The record of complaints may be reviewed and evaluated by the Commission as part of the institution's decennial evaluation or when other SACSCOC Committees are on campus. Students may wish to file complaints against the College with SACSCOC and may also file complaints against the SACSCOC Board of Directors, staff and visiting teams.
