At Hampden-Sydney, entrepreneurship is inherently interdisciplinary and thrives at the intersection of creativity, strategy, and technology. Students learn to transform ideas into impact regardless of their primary area of study. Innovation does not belong to one discipline; it belongs to those who connect the dots across many. For students who want theoretical training, they can choose from courses such as Entrepreneurial Thinking (BUSN 223) or Business Foundations (BUSN 222), among others.
The Flemming Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is the hub of forward thinking on the Hill. With programs like Forge on the Hill and L-E-R Executive Partners, students have access to small business owners, entrepreneurs, and subject matter experts with whom they can brainstorm and bounce ideas off of. Events like Demo Day and Rocket Pitch give students a chance to refine their delivery, receive expert feedback, win funding, and gain visibility.
The Flemming Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation connects visionary students with accomplished alumni, whose insight sparks innovation and growth. Through mentorship, networking, and practical guidance, alumni help students turn their bold ideas into thriving ventures—while students gain the confidence, resources, and perspective to shape their entrepreneurial journeys.
Located in downtown Farmville, the SEED Innovation Hub provides students access to tools and equipment to bring their businesses to life. 3D printers, digital tools, AI machines, fabric and vinyl tools, podcasting and recording equipment, coworking spaces, and woodworking gear, among other resources, as well as training on each piece of equipment is available for Hampden-Sydney students.
