Summer Term
Learning at Hampden-Sydney doesn't have to stop in the summer. Enroll in Summer Term courses to boost your GPA, catch up, or get ahead on course credits. Courses are offered on campus, off-campus (study abroad/away), and online.
If you choose to study abroad or away during Summer Term, visit the Office of Global Education's H-SC Programs Abroad.
Summer Term Courses
Beginning one week after Commencement, these special summer courses carry regular academic credit. The maximum load that a student may carry during the Summer Term is two simultaneous courses (with any co-requisite laboratories).
Class Availability
The College will attempt to offer all courses listed. Insufficient enrollment, however, or other factors beyond the College's control may dictate schedule changes.
Eligibility
Students who are in good standing at Hampden-Sydney or other colleges are eligible for admission to Summer Term; those on academic suspension from Hampden-Sydney or another institution are not eligible. Admission to the Summer Term in no way assures admission to a degree program at Hampden-Sydney College.
Credits earned during the Summer Term are applicable to degree programs and are transferable to other institutions. Acceptance of Summer Term credits by other institutions depends on the policy of those institutions. For Hampden-Sydney students on academic probation at the end of the spring semester, grades and quality units for Summer Term courses have no effect on the probation until the completion of the subsequent semester.
Currently enrolled Hampden-Sydney College students should register on-line for Summer Term courses via the College's Tiger Web using their ID number and current PIN. (Note: Students registering for Abroad/Away programs should coordinate with Dr. Daniella Widdows, Director of Global Education and Study Abroad.) After logging into Tiger Web, use the "Course Search" area to select the term "2025-2026 Summer" and hit the "Search" button. You will then see a full list of Summer Term 2026 courses.

The atmosphere at Hampden-Sydney during May term is quiet and relaxed. However, students may also find exciting recreational opportunities on campus, most of which are free. The Tiger Inn, Hampden-Sydney's student union, will be open nightly. This facility is equipped with ping-pong tables, pool tables, and dart boards, as well as a large screen television. Athletic facilities on campus include a fitness center and weight-lifting room, swimming pool, handball and racquetball courts, basketball courts, softball fields, and tennis courts.

Incompletes Policy
A student who receives a grade of "Incomplete" for the spring semester, who, as a result, is potentially subject to suspension, but who wishes to enroll in Summer Term, has until the fifth day of Summer Term to resolve the grade of "I." If the incomplete has not been resolved (i.e. a grade submitted by the professor to the registrar) by the fifth day of Summer Term (5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2026) the "I" is automatically converted to a grade of "F" on the student's transcript. Further, if the work completed and the resulting cumulative academic record warrants suspension, the student shall be withdrawn from any Summer Term courses in which he is enrolled.
