Funding for Study Abroad and Study Away

Hampden-Sydney Funding

Students intending to participate in an approved study abroad or study away program may apply for Global Ed funding from the college. Students complete one application and are considered for all H-SC funding sources that are relevant to their profile and program type, including Adelman, Classics, COMPASS, Gemborys-Choate-Bouin-Swenson, Global Ed Gifts, Kline, and Schug. Hurt Scholars may also request Hurt funds be used toward Global Ed program expenses.

Application Process

H-SC IN faculty-led summer programs

  • students apply for funding within the program application in VIA
  • applications are due the first Wednesday of classes in January
  • program acceptance status and funding offers are emailed in most cases by January 25
  • funding offer acceptance and program commitment form is due February 1

Virginia Program at Oxford

  • students apply for funding within the VPO application
  • VPO applications are due February 1
  • program admission and funding offers are emailed in most cases by March 5

H-SC PLUS programs with external providers

  • Approved program applicants apply for funding in VIA by:
    • October 5 – Spring programs
    • First Wednesday of class in January – Summer programs
    • March 5 – Fall or Full-Year programs
  • Funding offers are emailed in most cases by:
    • October 20 – Spring programs
    • January 25 – Summer programs
    • March 25 – Fall or Full-Year pograms

Outside Sources of Aid
